Was really tough choosing between this or Parklife for Blur's album to put on here, but ultimately went with MLIR as again, it's a no-skip album for me, Parklife is great but has a few tracks I generally skip whenever I listen to it, MLIR is great back to front. Supposedly created as a response to Blur's tour not doing well stateside along with backlash towards em, this album goes for a different sound and it works SO much better for it, each song is an absolute jam, albeit balanced out by some softer songs such as Blue Jean and Miss America, which are nice slower tunes in their own right, but when they decide to rock out it hits particularly hard, such as with Advert, Colin Zeal, and Coping, doubled by nearly every song having a catchy chorus that 99% of the time will have you singing along. Ironically despite the album's title and it being written out of response to backlash, this album is weirdly "fun" if that makes any sense, like they're still clearly more edgy/hard sounding than in their first album (compare There's No Other Way to Villa Rosie) but in a way that sounds like they're still having fun. This album isn't talked about as much compared to Blur's later albums (especially Parklife and S/T), so absolutely give it a listen, you won't regret it.
